Literary Festival 2017

The 2017 Mere Literary Festival was the 21st edition of the event.

Once again, an interesting and varied line-up of speakers and events was put together by our event organiser Adrienne Howell and her team.

Topics covered in this year's talks included display pilot tragically killed in a crash at a local aerial display, one of England's most dramatic maritime disasters, a tale of one woman's experiences working as a missionary in Bangladesh, women who have influenced garden design, and the women in Thomas Hardy's works and private life.

Additionally, featured talks included author Rachel Crowther about her latest novel, and an evening with Brian Freeland talking about his long career touring the world with theatre companies. The annual writing competition was once again very popular - this year a poetry competition. Other festival events included a poetry workshop with Rosie Jackson, and a children's event - featuring for the second successive year children's author Michael E Wills; this year with an Egyptian theme!
